Persona 5: Phantom of the Night Announced as Latest Spinoff

Persona 5 has seen numerous spinoffs, from dancing games to hack-and-slash RPGs, but it seems Sega and Atlus are not yet finished with the beloved RPG franchise. The latest addition to the series is Persona: Phantom of the Night, a mobile game developed by Perfect World Games.

While some may be skeptical of a mobile game, the trailer for Persona: Phantom of the Night looks promising. The game features the same mix of exploration and turn-based combat seen in the console and PC version of Persona 5. Long-time series designer Shigenori Soejima worked on the main character and owl sidekick, resulting in excellent character designs. However, the trailer doesn’t reveal any details about the payment systems that could be in place, which could make or break the game.

Players will take on the role of a high school student whose parents are away traveling, leaving them to attend school during the day and fight demons at night. The game appears to follow a similar path to the main game, with a fresh group of students, teammates, and possible social links. Joker and the rest of the Phantom Thieves do make an appearance, as seen in a screenshot from the official website.

While Persona: Phantom of the Night will be a mobile game, it looks like it will retain the same charm and gameplay as the main series. The game will have its first public test on March 29, so fans can look forward to trying it out for themselves. The official website for the game is currently only in Chinese, but it does provide a look at more of the excellent character design work.

For Persona 5 fans, it seems there is no shortage of content to enjoy. While some may be wary of yet another spinoff, Persona: Phantom of the Night has the potential to be a great addition to the franchise if it can deliver on its promise.

However, despite the excitement of a new Persona game, some fans are understandably cautious about this being a mobile release. Mobile games are notorious for their monetization schemes, and some fans worry that this new game could be a cash grab, particularly with the lack of information about payment systems in the trailer.

That being said, if Phantom of the Night delivers the same level of quality and gameplay as the main Persona games, then fans will likely be willing to overlook any potential monetization issues. With the game’s first public test taking place at the end of March, we won’t have to wait long to find out if it lives up to expectations.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first mobile Persona game, as Persona 5 Strikers also had a mobile release in Japan. However, that game was a spinoff of Persona 5 that focused on action-based combat rather than the turn-based combat seen in the mainline Persona games. Phantom of the Night, on the other hand, seems to be sticking to the same formula as the main games.

While it’s always exciting to see a new Persona game, fans will have to wait and see if Phantom of the Night is a worthy addition to the franchise or just another forgettable mobile game. Either way, the trailer certainly has us intrigued and we’re excited to see what the game has in store when it releases.
