Nintendo Switch Online subscribers have something new to look forward to with the addition of four more retro games to the library. Kirby’s Dream Land 2 on Game Boy takes center stage as the headline game, while the other three titles include BurgerTime Deluxe on Game Boy, Xevious on NES, and Side Pocket on SNES.
This follows the introduction of Game Boy titles for Switch Online members just last month, which included popular games such as Metroid II: Return of Samus, Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX, and Tetris. While Game Boy Advance games have also been added, they are exclusive to the premium Switch Online + Expansion Pass membership tier, which costs $50 annually compared to the $20 yearly fee for the standard Switch Online membership.
With the latest additions, the Game Boy library on Nintendo Switch Online now features 11 titles. But Nintendo has also confirmed four more games are on the way, including the Pokemon Trading Card Game and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons.
Nintendo’s continued efforts to expand its retro games library on Switch Online is a welcome treat for fans of classic gaming. The ability to play old favorites on a modern console with added features such as save states and online play is a fantastic way to relive the nostalgia of gaming’s golden age. And with more titles on the way, it seems that Nintendo is committed to keeping the retro gaming experience alive and well on the Switch.
This continued expansion of Nintendo’s retro games library is a great value for Switch Online members, especially for those who have fond memories of playing these games on the original consoles. It’s also a great way for younger gamers to experience classic titles for the first time.
The addition of Kirby’s Dream Land 2 is particularly exciting for fans of the pink puffball. The game was originally released in 1995 and follows Kirby as he sets out to stop an evil organization from stealing Dream Land’s rainbows. The game features new abilities for Kirby, including the ability to combine two abilities to create a new one.
BurgerTime Deluxe is a remake of the classic arcade game BurgerTime, which was first released in 1982. In the game, players take on the role of a chef named Peter Pepper as he tries to assemble burgers while being chased by various food items.
Xevious, which was first released in 1982, is a classic arcade shooter game. Players control a spaceship as they attempt to destroy various enemy targets on the ground and in the air.
Side Pocket, which was released in 1993, is a pool simulation game. Players can compete in various game modes, including a tournament mode where they can earn money to purchase new equipment and accessories.
It’s great to see Nintendo continuing to add more games to the retro library, and it will be interesting to see what other titles they will add in the future. While some fans may have wished for more modern titles to be added to the Switch Online library, the addition of these classic games is a great way to keep the nostalgia alive and introduce younger gamers to the roots of the gaming industry.
